Prior to my Legazpi trip last weekend, I had this compulsive need to tick off all the cited dishes located in one building. I know myself well enough to finish the task immediately or my convoluted mind will wallow in unnecessary angst.
So for two days in a row, I found myself walking towards Milky Way Building on Antonio Arnaiz Avenue. Or simply Pasay Road as we all know it.
Three of the four restaurants in the building had dishes that were part of either the SPOT.ph 's Top 10 Everything Food Lists or Linamnam : Eating One's Way Around The Philippines.
Azuthai was the Thai restaurant in the building.
I've been to this restaurant several times last year and always had a good time. On a side note, they have also joined the Salcedo Market on Saturdays.
I wanted to try their Pad Thai ( No. 2, SPOT.ph's Top 10 Pad Thai ). I've had this before and they've redesigned the appearance of the dish. Nonetheless, it was still as delicious as ever.
When I informed the affable waitress that I was meeting a friend at another outlet in the building, she immediately offered to bring the dish over when it was ready. Great to know that one can cross order and I'm assuming this can be done amongst the four restaurants.
Milky Way Café was the actual meeting spot that I suggested to a couchsurfer I was having lunch with.
This establishment has been a favorite for generations already. I still remembered ogling at the colorful food displays they had at a food court when I was still a child visiting Manila. I can't recall anymore what mall then.
This was so unbelievably tender and delicious : Baby Crispy Pata ( P. 81, Linamnam : Eating One's Way Around The Philippines ) - "lechon de leche, liver sauce". It was definitely worth every bite.
I didn't really need the accompaniment sarsa since the piglet was quite tasty on its own.
My lunch mate was Benjamin from France. He was staying in the country for several months to work with Sanofi, a French pharmaceutical firm located just a few blocks away in Rufino Street.
He was on a quick lunch break so our meal was strictly timed. Memories of bygone days when I used to work in an office came into mind. Wearing leather shoes, deadlines and office politics. I'm kinda glad those days were over.
The following day, I came back and had my meal at Cirkulo.
This was the Spanish-themed restaurant.
I liked the red and white interiors.
Bread and butter while waiting for my meal.
I think the amuse bouche was frittata.
Initially, I was playing with the idea of trying the Cochinillo Asado ( No. 1, Top 10 Potluck Party Food ) - "roasted suckling pig". The pig can be ordered half or whole. If I did so, I may have to eat pork for a week or so everyday and eventually visit a cardiologist.
I ditched the thought. Instead, I opted for the Chuletitas de Cochinillo - "crisp suckling pig, garlic potatoes". This was quite good and the ribs were perfect for nibbling.
Another dish I ordered was the Paella Montaña ( No. 5, SPOT.ph's Top 10 Specialty Paellas ) - "portobella mushrooms, whole roasted garlic, asparagus, truffle oil".
Similar to other establishments, the paella had a specific preparation time but the wait was worth every minute. Combined with the Chuletitas de Cochinillo, it was simply divine. So for two days, I was toying with my cholesterol levels. Was I worried? Nope, not a single bit. If the food was worth it, not at all.
Cost of Meal : 325.00 at Azuthai, 1578.50 at Milky Way Café, 1767.26 at Cirkulo
